G.H. Bass & Co.
Established in 1876 by George Henry Bass of Wilton, Maine, G.H. Bass & Co. began with a man on a simple mission – “to make the best possible shoe for the purpose for which it will be used.” Mixing the best materials with the best people, he paved a path of progress with patience, and Bass soon made tracks all over the map.
In 1936, the brand put a stylish spin on a Norwegian farm shoe designed for “loafing in the field,” and playfully dubbed them Weejuns—introducing the world’s first penny loafer. From pacing the Oval Office to doing the Moonwalk, Weejuns have been found on industrious feet ever since.
They say they don’t make ‘em like they used to, but Bass most certainly does. Still bench crafted and hand stitched, iconic Weejuns are more in demand than ever, by casual and fashion-forward crowds alike. Imbuing classic construction with a contemporary creativity, G.H. Bass & Co. continues to find new ways to marry the timeless with today—and stands as proof positive that a true original is always in demand.
